Maningrida Volunteer Unit

Maningrida is located on the coast approximately 400 kilometres east of Darwin.

The Maningrida NTES Volunteer Unit is responsible for the Maningrida district, which includes the major communities of Milingimbi and Ramingining. The area of responsibility covers approximately 21,500 square kilometres.

The general topography of the district ranges from sea level to the northern edge of the Arnhem Land escarpment.

The Maningrida Volunteer Unit is under the control of the NTES Northern Region. Currently the unit has over 20 dedicated members trained in a variety of emergency skills.

The Unit carries out the full range of normal Emergency Service tasks. In addition it provides the local fire response personnel and has a fire truck and fire trailer for grass fires.

The Unit refers to itself locally as the MERG (Maningrida Emergency Response Group).

The Unit Headquarters is located at the Maningrida Police Station.
