Kalkaringi Volunteer Unit

Kalkaringi is located 470 kilometres south-west of Katherine.

The Kalkaringi NTES Volunteer Unit is responsible for the Kalkaringi Police District. The District covers an area of 42,000 square kilometres. This includes 10 major pastoral properties and responsibility for a further seven properties bordering the Police area of responsibility.

The general topography of the district consists of mainly flat plain broken by small hills and rocky outcrops. All local rivers drain into the Victoria River and vegetation ranges from saltbush desert flats to densely wooded areas within the pastoral properties of Wave Hill, Camfield, Mount Sanford, Pidgen Hole and Montejinni.

The Kalkaringi Volunteer Unit falls under the control of the NTES Northern Region. Currently the unit has around five dedicated members trained in a variety of emergency skills.

The Unit carries out the full range of normal Emergency Service tasks. In addition it holds equipment for response to Road Accident Rescue incidents.

The Unit is located at Kalkaringi Police Station.
